Designed by hand for METAL BIBLE COVERS This a complete set of dies for the manufacture of bible covers. HISTORY: The dies were made by Sossner Studios in Brooklyn NY in the 1960's. The design of the bible was done in consultation with Cardinal Spellman as there was a desire that the finished product would be of use to Catholics as well as Protestants. The covers were never put into production, although a couple of protypes were made (as shown below). The owner of these dies had hoped to market the dies in the 60's and 70's but other professional interests interferred. Consequently, they are now available, and could be put into production. Appraisal: The dies have been appraised by an engineer and custom fabrication designer. The appraised value is $600,000. Size: The design was developed to accomodate a standard size bible. Cover Size: 5 1/2" w x 8 3/4" h; 1 3/4" d Features: Hinged covers. The rear cover is fully engravable. Infact, the rear can be manufactured on it's own allowing for a different design (and the spine does not have to be stamped as shown). It would allow for a metal cover with border and would have broad applicablility. The Dies: The dies have been in storage and are available for full inspection. The two prototypes are made out of brass with one being silver plated. Bible can be made with metal, alumininum, leather, plastic etc. Rear of bible allows for engraving, such as a gift inscription.
