If you have any question, please ask. Thermite has many uses, including lab demonstrations and thermite welding. A Thermite reaction is a very impressive thing to witness, and is great for illustration the principles of chemical reactions and energy. Thermite is made from Iron Oxide and Aluminum powder, ignited at a very high temperature (magnesium ribbon is commonly used). Fe2O3 + 2Al -> 2Fe + Al2O3 + ?H it is read, Iron Oxide and aluminum powder react to produce iron and aluminum oxide, giving off 851.5 kJ of energy. Thermite reactions can be quite violent, producing molten Iron and giving off allot of heat (several thousand degrees Fahrenheit), so proper safety precautions should be taken.
