November 1903 through October 1904
Here's a collection of 33 construction projects from one of the most popular home workshop magazines at the turn of the century.
Wanna build a real model steamboat with a real steam boiler? It's gonna need one. It's on page 33.
There's even instructions on building a model steam turbine starting on page 11.
How about a two foot long "hot Air Engine" what you and I call a Stirling Engine. See page 46
Here's a great one, making electrotypes. You know. Electrotypes? I've got to admit I had no idea either, just not old enough, I guess. It's making a replica or a reverse of a coin or medal by electro deposition. You could even replicate some jewlery pieces and save a bundle! Start on page 47.
You can even make your own precision balance, an Acetylene Generator for your Magic Lantern, gas engine spark coil, bench micrometer, an electrically operated flash lamp for take'n a picture of yer old black cat down in the basement, a wireless telegraph receiver, and even an 80-watt dynamo, or how about that hand, (that's right - hand) milling machine on page 80, and much, much more. All plans are included.
Or how about your own gasolene (I know, but that's how they spelled it back then.) powered car - 1900s style! No kidding. Here you get not only the plans and instructions to build a "Light Gasolene Car" but the two-cylinder gasolene engine and simple transmission too!
Now this ain't no model. The wheel track is 43" wide and the wheelbase is over six and a half feet and the whole rig is over nine feet long! Remember you're gonna sit in this thing and drive it around.
Now I'm not gonna tell you that all you have to do is chug right on down to your neighborhood hardware store and pick all these parts off the shelf. Nosireee! You're gonna make 'em! Get ready to build some wood patterns and pour a casting or two.
But think of what it will be like driving this authentic, homebuilt 1900 two-cylinder car around your block. How many folks will stop whatever they're doing and watch you? All of 'em I'll bet.
The Mayor will insist that you be in the next parade so the whole town can see you. Get a couple friends together and build a fleet of these things. You'll be the talk of the town for years to come!
This is just way too much fun! Man I can see you now - the girls all lined up to get a ride with you, bonnets in hand. Can you see it?
8 1/2" X 11" Soft cover, 95 pages profusely illustrated with line drawings, plans and sketches.
